Youth Set the Mark

1 Timothy 4:12 is the inspiration for our student ministry. Neothtos is the Greek word for "Youth". This verse stands as a challenge to each generation to raise the bar of faithfulness, setting the mark even higher than the previous generation. Many times the stereotype of Youth culture is negative and unreliable, immature, disrespectful to authority, and unfortunately, the squeaky wheel always gets the most attention.

But a closer look at history reveals that it is the "Youth" that bring change in cultures and society. The word "Youth" has no real age attached to it. It does not mean exclusively teenagers, twenty something's or any other age group, for that matter. The term "Youth" means younger than "OLD". In fairness to the context of this verse it does refer to Timothy as a "Young" pastor. Somewhere between a child and finally got it all together "OLD".

God has many times used "Youth" to radically change a people group, society or culture for His glory. I think of the Josephs in both the New and Old Testament: both young men deeply devoted to their God and willing to serve God even at the cost of personal shame, embarrassment, and physical harm. King Josiah: a young King finding the Book of the Law and turning his entire kingdom back to the Lord. Many of the Prophets of Old; Jeremiah: a teenager indeed, ultimately turning a nation back to the Lord. Esther, Ruth, Mary, Timothy, Titus: all of these individuals very young, "Youth", raising the bar even higher than the generation before them for God's namesake and His Glory.

Secular examples: Albert Einstein was a young school drop out working in the telegraph office working on his theory of relativity. President John F. Kennedy was the youngest United States president, responsible for getting the United States to the moon, instrumental in the civil rights movement. Zack Hunter, a teenage abolitionist and author of the book "Be The Change" has been featured on various news outlets and is making a global impact.

It is with the spirit of raising the bar and setting a new mark that I believe the Apostle Paul was challenging the young Pastor Timothy. As youth workers it is our priviledge to teach and challenge the young, the young at heart and anyone else with the zeal and passion of "Neothtos" to make a difference in their life for the Glory of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

"Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Weekly Gatherings

We are excited that you are interested in our Student Ministry here at Fellowship in the Pass Church! God is doing some exciting things in our midst. It is a humbling experience and incredible blessing to be able to invest in the lives of leaders of tomorrow. It is our hearts' desire to develop a faith community of students that is known for authenticity and spiritual growth. Our ministry is characterized by being a safe environment for students to be the persons that God has created them to be.

We set the mark high for our students. Recognizing that God has spoken to our world through His prophets of old and in the sending of His son Jesus Christ, we study the Bible, pray, worship and grow in our relationships with Christ, serving others in love and becoming more and more like Him.

Feel free to visit any of our weekly gatherings to get a better idea of who we are and what we are about.
